(November 20, 2020…Phoenix, AZ) The law firm of Burch & Cracchiolo, P.A. is proud to announce Caroline Estrada Carlson as the November 2020 recipient of the “B&C Star Teacher Award.” Carlson was recently named the Science and Enrichment Coach for the Roosevelt School District in Phoenix. Prior to this assignment she taught 8th grade science at Irene Lopez Elementary School for four years. She was awarded a check for $500 to use for fees and supplies, and received a certificate of recognition.
Carlson was nominated by her student Yesenio Romo. Her nomination reads, in part:
"Mrs. Carlson is a passionate science teacher teaching at my elementary school in South Phoenix. I nominate Mrs. Carlson because she introduced the Chief Science Officer program into the school to provide the students the opportunity to learn more about STEM subjects, participate in projects, and teach leadership skills that would otherwise not have been available at our school. She has executed weekend hiking trips for students and family members to help promote physical activity and decrease obesity. She has influenced us in creating teams to participate in the ASU Mars education program and competition, sparking the students interests in Engineering. Now I want to be an Aerospace Engineer as result of this project. Mrs. Carlson has also volunteered as a coach to lead the girls’ sports team. Most recently, she set-up workshops for 8th grade students and parents to help us, including myself, complete essays and Bioscience High School applications to ensure our children had a chance in getting accepted into a High School that will continue to nourish our STEM interests, and give us an opportunity to earn scholarships for college. All these efforts are done outside her regular teaching hours. It is volunteer time she gifts the students during after-school hours and/or weekends. She has also connected my sister with an engineer female mentor. All these reasons and more are why I truly appreciate Mrs. Carlson and why I nominate her. Her passion for the children's education and well-being is just phenomenal."
A Valley teacher is chosen each month to receive $500 through a nominating process on the firm’s website www.bcattorneys.com. Nominations will be accepted from students, former students and parents who wish to honor and thank a teacher who has had a great impact on their life. Many teachers spend their own money to augment the costs of classroom supplies, field trips and other non-covered costs that arise throughout the school year. B&C hopes to alleviate that burden for one deserving teacher each month.
Nominations are open to all teachers in K-12 who teach in Maricopa County. Winners will be notified and then presented a check at their school by a member of Burch & Cracchiolo. Photos and/or video will be taken to post on the firm website and social media. To nominate go to www.bcattorneys.com, click on the “Nominate a Star Teacher” button and tell us why you think your teacher deserves the B&C Star Teacher Award.
